The quality slider controls the trade-off between visual detail and file size. It does not represent a guaranteed percentage of the original image quality.

What changes when PNG becomes JPG?
- The decoded pixel width and height are kept.
- The visible pixels are encoded using JPEG at the selected quality.
- Transparent pixels are blended onto the selected background colour.
- PNG is lossless, while JPG is lossy and can remove image detail.
- EXIF, text chunks, colour-profile metadata and other embedded data are not carried into the new JPG.
- Detailed screenshots, text and line art may look worse in JPG than in PNG.
For images that contain sharp text, icons or transparency, keeping the original PNG may produce a cleaner result. For ordinary photographs, JPG may be more practical when compatibility or file size matters.
