What can be hidden inside a photo?

A JPG photo can contain an EXIF block alongside its visible image data. Depending on the camera, phone or editing software, it may contain:

How EXIF removal works

For normally oriented photos, the tool removes EXIF APP1 segments directly from the JPEG marker structure. The compressed image stream is copied unchanged, so there is no image recompression.

When the image depends on EXIF orientation values 2–8, simply deleting the tag can make the photo display incorrectly. In that case, the tool physically applies the orientation and exports a new high-quality JPG. That one-time re-encoding can slightly change quality, file size and colour handling.

Normally no. The EXIF segment is removed without recompressing JPEG image data. A photo using orientation values 2–8 is re-encoded once so it remains correctly oriented after the tag is removed.
It removes complete EXIF APP1 segments, including GPS coordinates, camera make and model, timestamps, software fields and embedded EXIF thumbnails. XMP and IPTC metadata are outside this version's scope.
The EXIF segment can contain text and a thumbnail. With lossless removal, the size reduction equals the EXIF segment bytes removed. Orientation correction uses re-encoding, so its size change is not solely metadata.
